On 17th October, NDUB Language Center organized a workshop on Copywriting where the facilitator was Sami Hossain Chisty, Assistant Professor in the English Department of Notre Dame University Bangladesh and Director of the Free Linguistics Center at the University of Sydney, Australia.
The participation in the workshop was limited to ensure its effectiveness, as stated by Cyril James Baptiste, the Senior Assistant at the center. He also mentioned that students from all departments were given the opportunity to take part in the workshop through a selection process.
Sami Chisty, the speaker, mentioned, “Copywriting can be a lucrative career option for any graduate. It’s also important to have career skills alongside university education.”
In the first volume of the workshop, he discussed fundamental topics related to copywriting, career prospects as a copywriter, and the techniques of analyzing advertisements, providing participants with the opportunity for discussion.
One of the participants, Bushra Morshed, a Master’s student in English, said, “Through the professor’s discussions, we have gained knowledge about linguistic messages and coded-iconic messages in any advertisement, which will be very helpful for us as future copywriters.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney, praised the engaging content of the workshop conducted by Sami Chisty.
