Gazette issued declaring 3-day state mourning, holiday over Khaleda Zia’s death

The interim government has issued an official gazettes declaring three days of state mourning and announcing a one-day general holiday after the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The notifications, issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Public Administration, state that the national mourning will be observed from Wednesday (December 31), to Friday (January 2).

During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, as well as at private establishments and Bangladesh missions abroad.

Separately, the government has issued a gazette declaring Wednesday (December 31), a general holiday by executive order. On that day, all public and private offices will remain closed.

However, emergency services and hospitals will remain outside the scope of this holiday, the notification said.

The gazette also noted that Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary instructions regarding banking operations, while the Supreme Court will provide guidance on court activities during the holiday and mourning period.
