The European Union (EU) has expressed deep condolences following the death of Bangladesh’s former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a message posted on its verified Facebook page on Tuesday, the EU in Bangladesh said it stood in solidarity with the people of the country during this period of national mourning.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Bangladesh on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia,” the statement read.

The EU’s message adds to a series of condolences from foreign governments, international organisations, and diplomatic missions mourning the death of the three-time former prime minister, whose passing has drawn widespread tributes both within Bangladesh and abroad.
