Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has emphasized that an elected government is essential for implementing state reform proposals.

An elected government must be in place first to execute the state reform proposals. Therefore, holding the general election should be a priority. The parties that receive the people s mandate will implement these reforms and initiate the election process, he stated while addressing a BNP workshop virtually from London. The event was held at Kadamtali ground in Shyampur and organized by the Dhaka South City BNP.

Rahman asserted that BNP has been at the forefront of advocating state reforms. Those who are now discussing reforms should know that BNP was the first to raise its voice on this issue, he said.

He highlighted that BNP has been promoting various reform proposals for the last two and a half years and recalled that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had introduced these ideas in 2016 through Vision 2030. We later refined and presented a 31-point charter of state reform two and a half years ago, he added.

Rahman warned that delays in implementing reforms could allow the ruling Awami League to strengthen its grip on power. The longer we prolong discussions on reforms, the deeper the country will fall into crisis. Conspirators will exploit this delay to their advantage, he cautioned.

Addressing concerns about whether elections alone could solve all problems, Rahman acknowledged that challenges would persist. However, he stressed that elections are the first step toward resolving them. No, not all problems will be solved immediately, but elections will give people the power to choose their leaders. A government with a public mandate can gradually untangle the existing issues, he explained.

He reiterated BNP s goal: Our job is one, our goal is one, our commitment is one we must rebuild this country and move it forward. He urged party members to stay united, emphasizing that success is impossible without collective effort.

Rahman encouraged BNP leaders and activists to pledge their commitment to the people of Bangladesh. Let us promise today that if given the opportunity to run the country, we will fulfill our promises from our respective positions, Insha Allah, he declared.

Several thousand leaders and activists from BNP s 24 thana units under Dhaka City South BNP, along with 11 front organizations, participated in the workshop. Before his speech, Rahman also answered questions from party members on issues such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, healthcare, and women s empowerment.

The event was chaired by Dhaka City South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu and moderated by Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin. BNP Commerce Affairs Secretary Alhaj Salahuddin Ahmed and Acting Chairman s Advisor Mahadi Amin also spoke at the workshop.
