Chief Adviser, advisers pay tributes to Language Movement martyrs

Chief Adviser of the newly formed interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus and thirteen advisers paid homage to the martyrs of the language movement by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here this morning.

At first, Dr Yunus placed the wreath around 11:15 am amid light rain and stood in solemn silence here for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the Language Movement.

The advisers of the newly formed interim government also paid homage to the martyrs of the language movement by placing wreaths.

After placing the wreath, Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, also former governor of Bangladesh Bank said, “After ensuring the law and order situation is stable, we will be working to recover the financial damages with focus on developing people livelihood”.

“The discriminatory government system has collapsed amid the students’ movement. As per the commitments with the students, we will reform the whole system with the sentiment of students”, said Adviser Nahid Islam from students’ representatives.

Earlier, the Chief Adviser to the interim government and thirteen advisers paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar.

They stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the 1971 War of Liberation.

Nobel Laureate and globally acclaimed economist Prof Muhammad Yunus was sworn-in as the chief adviser of the interim government last night.

He took over the responsibility three days after the fall of Awami League government in a student-led mass movement.
