*Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has served 37 poor patients with cataract surgery for free on Thursday.*
BEHRI, Vision Care Foundation, and Chikitsa Sahayata Kendra Chapainawabganj jointly hosted the eye camp at the hospital in the capital throughout the day, read a press release.
Dr Anthony Albert, and Dr Tasruba Shahnaz, Dr Jerin Parvin and Dr Nusrat Lubna Islam performed the surgeries under the supervision of BEHRI Director and Vision Care Foundation chairman Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed.
There was organised eye camp at Krishnagobindapur Degree College in Chapainawabganj on 16 February this year. Some 1,200 patients were examined and 420 were selected for surgery. Of the patients, 37 patients of the 5th batch were operated. Among them there are 15 males and 22 females.
Regarding the imitative, BEHRI Director Dr Saleh Ahmad said that the hospital has been conducting such humanitarian programme of free eye surgery since 2014.
“We conduct free eye camps in remote areas of the country. There, the operation patients were selected and brought to our hospital. After the operation, we bring them back to their home,” he said
BEHRI Manager (HR and Administration) Mohammad Ahsan Habib said, “This initiative has been taken to provide poor people with ophthalmic treatment. We have been conducting the campaign across the country free of cost since before.”
As many as 3,145 patients have so far undergone surgeries through this campaign, he added.
