The physical condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment in a city hospital, remains unchanged, according to her personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain.
All necessary tests, including blood tests, are ongoing for the ailing BNP chief, added Zahid while speaking to the media on Friday. “The Chairperson is still under the constant supervision of the medical board and is being treated in a cabin with CCU facilities.”
On the morning of 8 July this year, Khaleda Zia suddenly fell ill at her Gulshan residence, Firoza. She was then admitted to Evercare Hospital, where she is under the intensive care of the medical board. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that Khaleda Zia’s life was in danger. He also demanded her unconditional release for advanced medical treatment.
Earlier, on the late night of June 22, Khaleda Zia was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital after falling ill at her Gulshan residence. The next day, a pacemaker was placed in her heart. She returned home from the hospital on 2 July.
The BNP chairperson has been convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and jailed for total 17 years in the two cases. After serving jail for 776 days, Khaleda was freed from jail on 25 March 2020 as the government suspended her jail sentence for six months by an executive order. Since then, her release period was extended in every six months.
