Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to support the conduct of parliamentary elections whenever they are announced.
“All law enforcement agencies, including the police, are ready to facilitate the next general election,” he said during a view-exchange meeting with government officials at the Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Jahangir highlighted ongoing efforts to transform the police into a more people-friendly and professional force. “The police no longer behave the way they used to. Our goal is to remove the black marks of the past and build a humane, pro-people police service,” he stated.
Praising the recent performance of law enforcement in maintaining public order, the Home Adviser said, “The police are now doing a much better job. Their improved conduct is already being felt by the public.”
In response to concerns over possible flooding, Jahangir reassured attendees that the government is “fully prepared” to respond to any impending natural disasters. “Necessary arrangements have been made to tackle flood risks, and both the administration and law enforcement are on alert,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, and other senior officials from the district administration and police force.
Earlier in the day, the Home Adviser visited the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Mahera, Mirzapur Upazila, where he inspected academic facilities and interacted with trainees.
Addressing concerns over public safety and unrest, Jahangir emphasized that those involved in inciting violence or mob activities will face legal consequences.
“There will be no tolerance for disorder. We are committed to upholding the rule of law,” he said.
