Bangladesh has achieved a historic milestone by receiving a record $27.5 billion in inward remittances during the first 11 months (July–May) of the 2024–25 fiscal year, the highest ever recorded for the period.
The remittance flow saw a significant boost in May, as expatriates sent $2.97 billion, marking it the second-highest monthly inflow on record. According to Bangladesh Bank, $247 million alone was received in just the last three days of May (May 29–31).
Compared to the same month last year, May’s remittance inflow grew by 31.7%. In May 2023–24, the country received $2.25 billion, whereas the amount jumped to $2.97 billion this year.
The cumulative $27.5 billion received over 11 months reflects a 28.7% growth from the $21.37 billion received during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
A senior official at the central bank expressed optimism that total inward remittance could exceed $30 billion by the end of FY2024–25, setting a new all-time high for Bangladesh.
