Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on June 7, as the crescent moon of the Arabic month of Zil-Hajj was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh on Wednesday.Traditional clothing

The National Moon Sighting Committee made the announcement following a meeting held at the conference hall of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque around 6:30 PM.

The meeting was held with Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain in the chair.

With this official sighting, the Islamic month of Zilhajj in the Hijri year 1446 has begun, setting the date for Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims worldwide.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the Zilhajj moon on Tuesday.

According to Gulf News, the country will observe Eid-ul-Azha on June 6 (Friday). Indonesia has also declared the same date for the Eid celebrations.

Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to the Almighty Allah.

The festival is marked by special prayers, animal sacrifices and the distribution of meat to the poor and needy.

As preparations begin across the country, authorities have urged citizens to observe the occasion with due religious fervour and discipline.
